Focusing on your Tummy

Hi Guys! The following article is a guest post from a fitness buddy of mine named Angelina, I hope you guys enjoy it…

When people think about being in shape or healthy the first thing that comes to mind is a trim waistline. It has become the calling card of fitness. Being overweight means carrying extra fat in lots of areas, but just about everyone who embarks on a weight loss program is looking to find ways to get a flat tummy.

One of the hardest parts of the journey is to stay motivated. People who stay motivated have a steady route and get to their goal sooner than those who take a break or detour on their trip. I look at it like quitting smoking. You never really quit if you are still doing it. So how do keep the motor running on weight loss? You need to focus on one aspect or main goal and then put your energy into achieving it. Getting a flat stomach is a great goal because it is easy to focus on and monitor.

Let's Go!

Mentally prepare – Be honest with yourself. Why do you want to do this? Realize there will be setbacks on the road but understand you have to get back on that horse! Know that you can do this. Make it your top goal.

Picture it – Hang a picture of what you want to look like on the outside of the fridge, on the bathroom mirror, and anywhere else you need to. Use an underwear model, athlete, movie star, or whatever has that look that you want.

Journal – Keep a log each day and hold yourself accountable. Start the day by writing down that goal in big letters, "GET FLAT TUMMY!" Then at the end of the day write down the good and bad you did to reach the goal.

Have a plan – Know what you will do and why. Don't jump onto a crazy bandwagon. Figure out the best way to reach your goal and learn how to get there.

Training Partner – Motivation and support is easier with help from a friend. Find someone who wants the same thing you do and then work together to get there. It is harder to flake on a goal when you know you are letting someone else down as well.

Find inspiration – Support groups, forums, and books are all great tools for weight loss. You need something you can use when a setback hits to reset the drive to move forward. Reading about others who did it affirms that it can be done and you can do it!

The midsection is a great focal point because you can't hide from it. It is right there front and center everyday during everything you do. That is why it can be such a great goal to get a flat tummy because it will be a constant reminder of your achievement and a source of motivation to keep the weight off or lose even more if you so desire.
